Verde River Golf & Social Club - Coming In 2017!
For a decade, Verde River Golf & Social Club has been one of Arizona's best-kept golf secrets. And now, under the guidance of PGA Tour legend and Scottsdale resident Tom Lehman, the course is undergoing an extensive redesign project that will protect what is loved about the layout, while enhancing the overall experience for Members and guests.
The accomplished design team is tackling this project with the same passion that has already produced a number of top-ranked designs, including several in Arizona, such as Encanterra Country Club, Omni Tucson National-Sonoran, and Verrado Golf Club. They will be particularly focused on improving the green complexes and recapturing some of the natural arroyos that have become overgrown with time, in addition to ensuring that the spectacular sightlines to the nearby landmarks such as Four Peaks and the Mazatzal Mountains are incorporated into the course of play. Lehman is also rerouting a few of the golf holes to enhance the strategy and flow of the playing experience. Work is already well underway, with more than 25,000 cubic yards of dirt being moved daily.
The Golf Course
Crafted by noted “architect’s architect” Ken Kavanaugh, the course burst onto the Valley’s golf scene in 2007 to rave reviews. Experts and guests alike championed its strategic design and the sheer beauty of the view corridors across the Verde River and out to the Tonto National Forest and ultimately the iconic Four Peaks. In 2016, under the watchful eye of PGA Tour legend Tom Lehman, an already award winning 18-hole layout transforms into a design more suitable as a private course through changes both large and small. As the course transitions from daily fee to private, the requirements for a practice facility increase vastly. The reenvisioned facility will feature a larger putting green, larger chipping/pitching area, larger tee deck to hit more target greens, and space dedicated to professional instruction. We have dubbed the first six holes of the golf course the "Peaks Loop." Featuring a diverse test of 3 par 4's, 2 par 3's, and a single par 5, the Peaks Loop is an hour-long escape or the perfect conclusion to an afternoon practice session.
